Carnegie, Community and Kindness

The Port Townsend Public Library, founded in 1898 by volunteers, continues to rely on community support for programming and services. This Carnegie Library offers much more than a stroll through the book aisles. County Fair’s Importance to Rural Communities

Stop and Smell the Rhodies ~ Rhody Fest 2022

(Airdate: May 3, 2022) In 1935, a local businessman convinced Hearst Metrotone News to come and film the blooming rhododendrons in Jefferson County. Hearst provided “short subjects” to theaters throughout the United States. Thus was the inspiration for Port Townsend’s annual Rhododendron Festival. Join Missy Nielsen of Everybody Can as she discusses the return of our most beloved festival with Rita Hubbard and Mary Crozier. From Bed Races to Pet Parades this festival hearkens us to come out and “Smell the Rhodies.” Join us for this conversation!

Recycling Styrofoam

(First airdate: April 5, 2022) On this episode of Everybody Can, we explore the world of recycling Styrofoam. Difficult and expensive to recycle, Styrofoam is not accepted in much of Washington’s residential recycling programs. The PT Styro Recyclers are working to mitigate this gap in our community. Polly Lyle and Judith Minzel discuss with host Missy Nielsen the process, the partners, and the potential for this organization to impact our growing environmental waste stream on the Olympic Peninsula.
