Chris Bricker’s Co-Host for today is Jen Kingfisher, Jefferson Community Foundation’s Non-Profit Relations Manager.
Chris and Jen explore a landscape view of basic needs that that the non-profit sector service and counsel in Jefferson County.  Those needs include food assistance for adults, families and school children; financial assistance (especially with utilities); housing and rental assistance (especially with the eviction moratorium in effect for the remainder of October); Pro Bono eviction legal assistance; transitioning of the shelterless from the Fairgrounds to the Mill Road property; the need for an assist in the navigation of resources for children and their families; and the need for available and affordable childcare.

This week on the Compass we attend a fundraising open house at the Point Wilson Light Station and hear about plans to open access to the historic site. Then we talk with the director and a board member about plans for improvements at the Recyclery, the innovative local nonprofit dedicated to safely putting people on bikes.

Sudar shares with host MaryAnn Wagner his seasoned perspective on fishing today and the joys and challenges that come with it. He also shares his personal journey and the path that led him to a life of fishing and working with fishermen along the Columbia River, marketing a variety of salmon and sturgeon from the Columbia River gillnet fishery to consumers in Washington State.

(First airdate: September 28, 2021) JoAnne Tompkins introduces her debut novel “What Comes After” on Booklovers’ Cafe. The book has received great reviews from the New York Times as a recommended Book Group selection. It is set in Port Townsend and is a psychological mystery with strong characters. Sometimes tough and sometimes tender, the book is true to life today AND it features a great dog named Rufus.

PT Film Festival Compass Special for 9/25/21

Some fifty years before Black Lives Matter and March for Our Lives – before computers, cell phones, and Facebook — priests and brothers Philip and Daniel Berrigan shook up the Washington establishment by engaging in nonviolent resistance against war, earning them the title of America’s Most Wanted fugitives. Joined in marriage to Philip as well as resistance, nun Elizabeth McAlister joined the brothers in protest against war, racism, capital punishment, and nuclear weapons.
