Friday, April 13th’s Tossed Salad featured 4th and 5th graders from Blue Heron School.
Host Phil Andrus welcomed 18 talented students, beginning with fiction from Elly Dam and literary opinions by Ava Cecil, Tilly Norton, and Kai Ryan.
They were followed by music from six 4th graders who sang songs from The Drum, a musical directed by Kim Clarke.
Finally the seven pictured 5th graders rounded out the segment with a presentation on Ocean Acidification.

In a reprise of a show aired in May of last year, we talk with scientists, geologists and emergency personnel about a huge disaster that is on its way to the Pacific Northwest. It could happen tomorrow, or one hundred years from now. But when it does, thousands of people could die.

Super-mechanic Bob worked his way from cars to jet planes and finally to grandfather & cuckoo clocks. Every clock has a story, he says, if only they could talk about the generations they have watched. One peninsula clock dates back to 1741. That family has the multigenerational story memorized. Some clocks he worked on came from the great sailing vessels, some are more modest family mantle clocks. But all are lovingly restored.

Port Townsend Marine Science Center Aquarist Ali Redman, and Americorps volunteer and educator James Swanson, join host Nan Evans in studio to discuss changes at the Marine Exhibit for the upcoming season, including expanded opportunities to learn more about the intriguing sea life around us and efforts to conserve the ecosystems of the Salish Sea. Closing music is “Marine Science,” performed by Curtis Schwartz.

This Friday, Tossed Salad host Phil Andrus will be on air a half hour early at 12:30pm – for a special memorial of Mark Henthorn, the cyclist who died after being injured in an unfortunate accident last week at 19th and Landes Streets. Phil is joined by Mark Henthorn’s long-time friends Mark Michaud, Jeff McLean, and Oliver Henry.
